MACA is a professional association aimed at promoting the
continuous development, education and high state of excellence
of its members and Criminology-related experts.
The Association was set up on the 12th December 2008 at the University of Malta.
The process involved the setting-up of a task-force aimed at establishing a launching pad for the Association. The following highlights the targets that the founding members set out for themselves in order to bring the initiative to fruition:
Aim of Task Force:
To set up an association that promotes, enhances, and professionalises the criminology discipline in the Maltese Islands.
Sub Aim: To focus criminological debate on the real issues rendering a just and professional outcome
Objectives of Task Force:
- To bring together a group of criminology professionals and create an operational network
- To identify the areas that MACA can involve itself in
- To set up MACA based on the following issues:
- To establish guidelines that promote criminology as a profession
- To ensure that ethical guidelines are established
- To lay down targets for a warranting system
- To focus criminology debates within a correct context
- To serve as a consultative body to policy and decision-makers
- To be involved in legislative drafting and review
- To serve as an overseer of licensing based on international standards
- To work towards a comprehensive education role
